Welcome to my site. I’m Barbora Paulovicova. In my work I focus on graphics and book illustration and other types of art – painting, graphic design, sculpture and art in general. I am creating art since my childhood and I also managed to be a professional artist, which I enjoy. I studied art at a university in Bratislava, I’m a master of art. My biggest achievement was scholarship and a chance to improve my skills during a two-year grant at the Denpasar Arts Institute, Bali Island, Indonesia.

The domain of my work is alchemy in drawing, I strive for precision, precise brush strokes in new exotic techniques and themes, captivating harmony and symbiosis of colours with engaging narrative.

The main element you will see in my work is “apple”. Golden apple with braids growing out of the new branch of the Tree of Life. It represents the legacy of the ancestors, the response of the voice of the old Slavs, who speaks to our hearts in their mother tongues. The heart is love, the centre of all forces. All my feelings about life and philosophy are expressed by the legacy of the ancient Slavs – their communication with the Sun.

The apples in my works also bear human traits – they can hear – actually, they have ears. They can speak foreign language, or just smear their lips full with their tongue out. The emergence of a tasty seed from the seed, through the flower and twisted apple core, to the new plant, suggests a relationship with the human life cycle. So the apple orchard comes to life on the fruits of those close to it. It reminds us of family trees, family heritage, relationships full of love and life knowledge. As we say in Slovak – The apple does not fall far from the tree.

In my works, I often exceed European connotations. I think I was very affected by the whole environment during my Bali scholarship. I try to live with an open mind. The symbolism of an apple takes on me a wider (often intimate) level of understaning, as when an apple meditatively receives a message from cosmos, a young tree of life grows from a young Gunungan, or a ripe fruit waving with a butterfly wings accompanied by happy and honey bees.

I like to create works that are diverse, juicy, deep, with high energy and humble joy of life. I hope that they will make you smile, they will evoke emotions and become your favourite and quality piece. Whether on the wall, in the wardrobe or on the hand as a jewel.
